Spring marks the season dedicated to student research: every two years during this period, the sections of the National Scientific Students' Conference (OTDK) in Hungary are organized, while in the spring months, local scientific student conferences (TDK) are also held throughout Transylvania. Presenters at these local events may qualify to participate in the pan-Carpathian OTDK. Our university has joined this academic movement not only as an organizer, but also through the remarkable achievements of its students: at the 37th edition of the OTDK, Sapientia students submitted 104 papers and earned 37 awards.
Sapientia University students competed in 15 OTDK sections — a strong indicator of their academic preparation — but even more notable is the fact that they won awards in 12 of those sections. This year’s results mark the university’s best performance in the pan-Carpathian competition: our students brought home 8 first prizes, 6 second prizes, 3 third prizes, 15 jury special mentions, and 5 additional special awards.
Most awards were won in the Agricultural Science Section, which was a highlight in itself for our academic community this year, as it was hosted by the Faculty of Economics, Socio-Human Sciences and Engineering in Miercurea Ciuc. In addition, students from technical and humanities programs also received numerous accolades at this prestigious scientific competition.
Throughout May, the University will hold scientific students’ conferences at all four of its faculties. In addition to these events, Sapientia is preparing for another major occasion: it will host a conference on Thursday, May 15, at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) in Budapest. The purpose of this event is to honor the Academy’s 200-year legacy and to highlight the contributions of Transylvania — and especially Sapientia University — to the advancement of both Hungarian and international scientific research.
